What should people look for when hunting for those awesome pieces to upcycle?
I look for something with Good bones ( in good shape that has stood the test of time) and interesting lines. I love French vintage styles so Queen Anne Legs, Cane and Ornate details are some of the things I look for. I don’t give my attention to just anything. It needs to make me smile. When it is the right piece I know, I get giddy inside…
How can upcycled pieces fit in a modern home?
There are definitely no rules about keeping vintage with vintage and modern with modern. Antiques today are used differently than when they were in your Grandmas house. Today some of the most stylish rooms mix it up and upcycling them with new color, knobs and fabric just adds your personality to the piece.
I always prefer mixing vintage items with modern pieces to create an interesting space that has personality. Mix an antique buffet with a reclaimed wood and metal industrial dining table, add a vintage crystal chandelier and perhaps some mid century modern dining chairs and you will have an interesting room with layers of style.
What are the three biggest do's and don'ts that you can share to do-it-yourself upcyclers?
Don’t be afraid to change things, paint things and use your imagination. Don’t be intimidated by it.
Do go for it and have fun!
Favorite piece in the shop right now that you have made?
Wow, that’s hard to pick. I tend to fall in love with everything! If I have to pick I would say this tufted Victorian sofa. It is a classic that never goes out of style and I just love the way it turned out. The crisp white and grey color scheme is so fresh that it adds a modern feel.
