Join Us Tonight for Make Music Vancouver

Get ready for a swirling soundscape of musical styles! Make Music Vancouver returns tonight (June 25th) from 5pm-10pm. Over 100 artists are performing live on Water Street for this free event.

If you find yourself frequenting Gastown’s independent restaurants and boutiques, show your support by voting for your favourites in the Georgia Straight’s Best of Vancouver 2014 Awards.

Andrea Chromik is one of several returning contenders in this year’s Aprons for Gloves charity event. Having come in as a Kitsilano kid last year, she’s now a Blacktail Florist fighter, one of five from the Gastown eatery, and expects the odds will swing in her favour this time around. Chromik was a newbie when she went up against the champion in her division in 2013 and was forced to forgo her final few weeks of training after finding herself in Calgary during the city’s devastating floods. But, she’s been training hard and expects her ‘slick, ugly moves’ to put her on top this year.

A non-exclusive list of weekly events to keep on your radar.

Brand new to the neighbourhood, Sasha Walker is excited to don her boxing gloves in support of Aprons for Gloves. As a member of the big Blacktail team, she’s putting a year’s worth of cross-fit together with a rock-solid work ethic in the ring. Underdog? Maybe. But she’s open to a big battle against two-time champion, Sugar Shay, for the belt.

Now that summer has officially arrived, Vancouverites are making the most of outdoor spaces. And in celebration, a popular street side music event is returning to Gastown with a long list of local talent and a mission to turn downtown into a dance floor.

Bottoms up! Discover the signature cocktails served at Gastown's best restaurants and bars.

Recent import from the Land of Oz, James E. Stevenson didn’t waste any time jumping into the ring to train for this year’s Aprons for Gloves. His arrival in Gastown came just a few weeks before the tryouts, but with a little encouragement he was game to get involved. Landing a spot in the light heavyweight division, James is already getting fit and making friends on the road to the main event.

Over 100 music acts set to perform live on the streets of Gastown.
