A Car-Free Summer Series | Sundays, July 5 –September 6

Water Street is turning into a stage, gallery, café patio, dance floor, and open-air playground – every Sunday from July 5 to September 6.

Each week features a fresh setlist of DJs, art drops, interactive installations, markets, games, and curated surprises. It’s street-level culture, served up weekly in the heart of Vancouver’s most iconic neighbourhood. This is your new Sunday ritual.

What to Expect

  • Free weekly, family-friendly, programming from 12pm–8pm
  • Music, art, culture, dining, shopping, and community vibes
  • Patio seating, pop-ups, and people-first streets
  • All happening on Water Street from Richards to Columbia

Signature Events

In addition to weekly programming, four rotating event takeovers will bring extra energy to the block each month:

Coffee, DJs, and a heavy pour of morning vibes

Coffee culture meets curated soundscapes in this upbeat streetside takeover. Hosted in collaboration with Public Disco, each stage will feature a distinct, thoughtfully curated progression of music, showcasing a diverse range of local selectors from communities like TableTutors and bside.radio. Expect a tasteful blend of Jazz, Funk, Soul, Latin, House, Disco, and other eclectic sounds to set the Sunday mood.

Where It’s Happening

Water Street – from Richards to Columbia – will be car-free every Sunday, creating space to explore, relax, and connect.

Getting Here

We’ve teamed up with local partners to make it easier to get to Gastown every Sunday.

From late May to August, Cordova Street will also be temporarily two-way from Gore Avenue to Richards Street throughout the summer, improving neighbourhood accessibility.

Why We’re Doing This

Gastown Sunday Set is part of the larger City of Vancouver Public Spaces Plan. The Sunday closures are meant to test a pedestrian-friendly environment in Gastown aimed at enhancing the area’s public realm while maintaining access for businesses and residents.

What we learn this summer will inform the Gastown Public Spaces Plan, which will guide future investments in the area.

The Sunday Set is a celebration of the businesses, artists, and people that make this neighbourhood hum – brought to life with music, movement, and community creativity.

Whether you’re grabbing a coffee, hunting for flowers, catching a DJ set, or just wandering car-free streets, there’s something new every week.
